Description
Size: 6ft 1in x 4ft 11in (186 x 150cm).Antique Anatolian Siirt Angora Mohair shepherds blanket.
Circa 1900/20.
These blankets are made in the town of Siirt, in Turkey. They are a local tradition, woven on simple looms using Mohair wool from the local Angora goats. After weaving the face of the blanket is brushed with a steel comb to produce a very soft long pile.
These blankets make ideal throws for covering furniture or beds, they also make ideal hangings with their bold graphic design.
A superb old example with a very interesting large medallion design in two tone colour palette.
Excellent condition.
