Mid 19th century.
An exceptional pair of chuval faces by the Tekke Turkmen. The faces have the aina gul design, there are 36 guls to each face. Alternate guls have opposing quarters in crimson silk. The main border is a box design containing a star or sunburst motif. A rare feature of these chuval is the tall Turkmen tree running up the sides. The elem panel is covered in diagonal rows of small flowering shrubs.
The chuval are of very fine weave with excellent wool and dye quality.
Excellent condition with even wear and medium pile, one chuval has slightly more wear than the other.
Hand washed and ready for use or display.

Antique Ersari Turkmen torba with star in octagon design of large size.
Circa 1870.
A very good torba with a well drawn example of this classic Ersari design. The colour is superb with a clear red. The central star in octagon is surrounded by six further stars on a dark indigo blue ground. The most unusual feature is the main border being in very soft undyed brown wool, this could be camel wool. This is without doubt an unusual and scarce torba possibly of an earlier date than stated.
The torba is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile, it has a smoked feel from tribal use; the reds are showing signs of corrosion through out. There is slight damage and some old repairs to the sides as can be seen in the images.
Hand washed and ready for display. A superb collectible display item.

The chuval is of large size and shaped to fit on the side of a camel, chuval were large bags strapped to the side of the camel used to transport goods. The mina Khani design (many flowers) is typical for the Beshir Turkmen, the lower pane (elem) is decorated with the shrub design. The back of the chuval has been removed so that it can be used on the floor as a rug.

A good Saryk Turkmen chuval face with sixteen guls and nine complete minor guls, the top of the chuval and the lower elem panel are filled with traditional Saryk 'dancing ladies' design. The chuval has highlights in Cochineal and all the whites are in cotton.
The chuval face is in fair condition with even wear and medium pile, there are a few spots of heavier wear. There are slight losses in places to the sides and ends as can be seen in the images.
I have not washed the chuval face and the colour will improve with a gentle wash.

This example by the Ersari Turkmen has a visually exciting design of eight stars within octagons. The germech retains its original short kilim at the lower end.

This is a very scarce Turkmen weaving, it is believed that germech were hung across the entrance to the tribal yurt in the door way below the ensi at ground level. The purpose was to stop dirt and dust blowing into the yurt and also to prevent small animals entering. Very few of these have survived and rarely come to the market.
This example by the Ersari Turkmen has a repeat design of tribal elements on a rich brown ground. The germech retains its original short decorated kilim and tassels at the lower end and the upper end is folded over to give increased strength to the top edge.
The germech is in excellent condition with no wear and full pile, I would go as far as to say that this is in almost perfect condition.
This is a collectible Turkmen weaving that will display very well.
