Description

Size: 1ft 3in x 9in (37 x 22cm) each bag.
Antique Yomut Turkmen pair of 'kap' small storage bags, complete with plain weave backs.
Circa 1880.
This is a very scarce pair of Yomut Turkmen kap, single examples can be found but I have never come across a surviving pair. These very small bags were used for storing prized personal belongings, it is also suggested that they could have been used to store tobacco. This is a distinct possibility as both of these bags have discolouration to the inside, possibly caused by tobacco. The design is known as 'square in diamond' with the small squares on an ivory ground within a diamond lattice. The bags both have plain weave backs in ivory, although these are slightly smoked and discoloured through tribal use. The bags are open at the top and are original and intact in every way.
The bags is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and medium pile, there is very slight colour transfer from the red to the ivory in a few places. One of the bags has a small old repair to the back, as can be seen in the image of the backs.
The quoted price is for the pair.
