The range of natural dye colours is exceptional, from the yellow in the central medallion, the soft terracotta red in the field and the remarkable light indigo blue in the spandrels. The carpet is framed by a border in dark indigo blue with a classic floral design.

The carpet is of fine weave for its size, it has a single row of ten ivory ground latch hook linked medallions, each medallion contains pecking chickens and floral rosettes. The most outstanding feature of this carpet is the field, every inch is covered with small tribal designs of birds, animals, tribal devices and a number of people. The inner border is of pecking chickens and the main border is of a classic Khamseh design.
The Carpet has even wear with medium pile, slightly heavier wear in places, the wool quality and colours are outstanding. The carpet is from one of many weaving villages in the mountainous area about 60 km east of Tabriz. The carpet has a triple linked medallion design on a camel ground, the corners of the carpet are in soft indigo blue filled with a repeat boteh design. The ivory ground boarder is of a classic Bakshaish design.

Suzani are silk embroideries that have been woven in Uzbekistan for many hundreds of years, they are treasured family items woven by the ladies of a family usually to celebrate a wedding. They are then used to decorate the inside of the Yurt. They are embroidered in silk on strips of cotton which are then joined together to make the complete item. The suzani is then backed with fine cotton to give it strength and body.
This example is from Bukhara and features large multi coloured fan shaped flowers in groups entwined in a green leafy vine. The suzani has been embroidered in five strips.
The condition is excellent with only very slight wear and a few scattered old repairs, the suzani has a fine cotton ivory backing.
The suzani is ready for display or it could be used as a bed cover.

The long and narrow format of this group clearly deviates from other prayer rugs made in the Shirvan area.

Antique ‘Jail’ Agra rug with all over large boteh design.
Circa 1870/80.
These rugs were woven in the prisons of Agra, India during the latter part of the 19th century.
This rug is a superb example with a very dark indigo ground covered in large boteh design, the boteh are in gold, green, aubergine and ivory. The border is a striking diagonal stripe design.
The rug is in excellent condition with almost no wear and full pile, the wool is very soft. The rug retains a small kilim at both ends in light indigo blue.
It is rare to find such an outstanding example in almost perfect condition.
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
