Description
Size: 9ft 2in x 4ft 11in (280 x 151cm).Antique Timuri or Baluch small main carpet of medallion design.
Circa 1880 or earlier.
A good tribal Baluch or Timuri main carpet of small size, from the borders of western Afghanistan and Eastern Persia. The carpet has a design of two vertical rows of five medallions, the design of the medallions is associated with the Timuri tribes. The colour palette of soft madder red and clear indigo blue is also a Timuri feature. The linked lotus leaf border is very well drawn and usually found on early examples of Timuri work. Note the long kilim end finishes in bands of different colours.
The carpet has even wear with medium / low pile, there is some corrosion to the browns, The sides and kilim ends do show some signs of historic wear.
