Description

Size: 4ft 0in x 2ft 9in (123 x 84cm).
Antique Ersari Turkmen 9 gul chuval face with good colour. The elem design is a stylised tree design.
Circa 1880.
Chuval are storage bags used by the nomads to transport goods, the faces are piled so make very good small rugs. This example originates from Southern Turkmenistan.
The chuval face is very will drawn with 9 large guls with good spacing separated by 4 complete minor guls, the main border is of classic Turkmen design. The tress in the elem are very fine and of a style found in earlier Turkmen weaving.
The chuval face is in good condition with very slight even wear and good pile. The sides have been reduced at some time in the chuvals history and re-bound. The original plain weave back has been removed.
