Size: 2ft 11in x 1ft 0in (90 x 30cm).Antique Tekke Turkmen torba / mafrash.
Circa 1880 or earlier.
This small Tekke Turkmen torba / mafrash is a small bag used for keeping personal belongings in, it was usually hung up inside the tribal yurt. This example is of 'aina' gul design, there are two rows of four box like guls containing the kotchak design, which is filled with a star. Note the elem panel at the base decorated with small Turkmen trees.
The torba is in good condition with even wear and medium pile, it is complete with the original plain weave back that shows signs of smoke discolouration from hanging inside the yurt.
A good display item that could be hung on a wall or used on top of a table or chest.
