Chuval are storage bags used by the Turkmen nomads for the storage of personal items inside the yurt and also for the transport of goods on the backs of camels or horses. They were usually woven in pairs. 'kizil' translates to red; these chuval are associated with weddings and formed part of the brides dowry, they were prized possessions and passed down through the family. This example is of classic design with very fine decorated bands in pile and flatweave on a madder red ground. These are considered to be the finest knotting of all Tekke weavings. Known as 'kizil' chuval; the translation is 'red bag'. The chuval face is in good condition with light even wear, there is a small area of damage on the left hand side that is shown in the images, this is reflected in the price. Stock Number: D-5019.
