Description

Size: 7ft 5in x 8ft 1in (225 x 247cm).
A very good small main carpet by the Turkmen of the Upper Amu Darya region or central Asian Kirghyz; the border can clearly be seen to be related to designs found on Beshir rugs and carpets.
Mid 19th century or earlier.
The carpet is well drawn with diagonal rows of hooked guls on a saturated red ground, all of the colours are vibrant and show dye qualities of the highest order.
The carpet is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile. The pile is long and glossy. I have found only one or two spots of re-piling. The carpet retains a few rows of kilim at both ends.
This is a very rare collectors rug in superb original condition.
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
