Description

Size: 11ft 10in x 5ft 9in (360 x 174cm).
Antique Central Asian Uzbek Turkmen tribal carpet.
Circa 1880.
The carpet has two rows of six large Tauk Nuska guls containing four small animals, the carpet has a clear red ground. The carpet is framed by a border with traditional design. The carpet retains its original kilims at both ends.
These carpets have been studied and widely discussed within the rug world, in error the trade have called them Karakalpak / Qaraqalpaqs, after this central Asian nomadic group, but research has shown these carpets to be the work of the Uzbek Turkmen people who lived in the Nurata and Jizzax regions of Uzbekistan.
The carpet is in good condition with even wear with medium pile. There are a number of old repairs to the field.
The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use.
The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use.
