A very good old South Caucasian Shirvan rug, with a design inspired by rugs from the Lesghistan region.
About 30 years old.
A superb example of Shirvan village weaving, rich natural colours and hand-spun wool. This rug was purchased in Azerbaijan about 15 years ago from weavers who had a small but very high quality weaving workshop.
The design is usually found on rugs from the Lesghistan region of the Caucasus, this rug has three stars on a indigo blue ground. The border is unusual as it is usually found on Shirvan Marasali rugs.
The rug is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and good pile.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
A scarce example of modern Shirvan weaving of the highest quality.
