Antique Sarouk carpet of classical design dating from the end of the 19th century.
Circa 1890..
The carpet is of very fine weave with tight fine pile, cut very short with a velvet like feel. The carpet has a central medallion of indigo blue on a soft madder red field filled with fine floral sprays. The border is of a traditional Sarouk design.
The floral design has amazing detail and is an outstanding example of type.
The colours are superb, with rich natural dyes throughout, clear reds, soft yellows and greens and mellow ivory.
The carpet is in fair condition with even wear and medium to low pile, there are a few scattered old re-weaves and spots of foundation. This is a good hard wearing carpet with plenty of life left in it, currently it has a used country house look, and is sold 'as is', we would be happy to restore the carpet if required at our restoration cost price.
The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use.
The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
