Description

Size: 6ft 8in x 3ft 10in (202 x 118cm).
Antique West Anatolian Izmir region prayer rug of scarce type.
Circa 1890.
This is a scarce rug woven in the Izmir region at the end of the 19th century, the design is usually associated with the Konya region of central Anatolia.
The rug has a green ground mihrab with ivory surround, the large scale yellow ground carnation border is a feature of this rug.
The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile, the weave is fairly coarse and the rug has a soft floppy handle. Both ends retain the short striped kilim end finish.
Hand washed and ready for use or display.
