antique caucasian kuba karagashli rug nice example circa 1890

Item Ref

Size: 5ft 3in x 3ft 5in (161 x 103cm).
Antique Caucasian Kuba rug from the village of Karagashli which is just north of Perepedil.
Circa 1890.
The rug is a very well-drawn example of this classic Caucasian design. The deep indigo field with two rows of three slanting palmettes, dragons, snow flakes or star like flowers, birds and animals. The border design is the leaf and calyx design which is typical for rugs from this region.
The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium/low pile. The rug is of very fine weave and has good wool. There would appear to be some slight corrosion to the red in the palmettes.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
