Description
Size: 4ft 9in x 4ft 5in (144 x 135cm).Antique Turkish Village prayer rug from the Menderes river valley, South West Anatolia.
Late 18th century.
The rug has very soft wool and a very floppy handle. The rug is beautifully drawn with superb colours through out including a good green around the mihrab and a beautiful yellow/gold as a ground colour for the border. The floral border design is very attractive.
The rug is in good condition with even wear and medium pile, there are losses to the sides and ends and some damage to the field. The rug has been professionally conserved and mounted on ivory linen.
The rug has been hand washed and would make a superb wall hanging.
This is a good collectible rug of a small well documented scarce group.
