Description
Size: 7ft 4in x 4ft 8in (223 x 142cm).Antique Turkish Ghiordes prayer rug of classic design with multiple stripe borders.
Pre 1800.
The rug is beautifully drawn with superb pastel colours through out especially the soft green in the field. The multiple stripe border design is very attractive, this is also found on some Kula rugs of a similar age.
The rug is in fair condition with even heavy wear, foundation in places and low pile. There are a few scattered old re-weaves and repairs as one would expect with a rug of this age. Some of the dyes have corroded allowing the foundation to show in places.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for very light domestic use, but would make a superb wall hanging. A great piece of rug history, over 220 years old!
