Size: 5ft 10in x 3ft 11in (177 x 119cm).Old Anatolian Kayseri 'art silk' prayer rug, beautifully drawn garden prayer design.
Circa 1950.
'Art Silk' is a widely accepted term for cotton that has been mercerised, this is a treatment process that strengthens the cotton and gives it the characteristics of silk; only a detailed test process can distinguish mercerised cotton from real silk. Beautiful rugs using this process have been made since the end of the 19th century. This enables you to buy a rug that looks like silk at a fraction of the price of real silk.
A beautiful rug or wall hanging, with very soft colours.
Outstanding drawing and design with wonderful colours, the border design is superb. Lions or tigers are featured in the rug along with other animals.
Very good condition, slight even wear and good pile.
Ideal to be used as a wall hanging or use in a light traffic area.
Hand washed and ready for use or display.
