The carpet has a rich mahogany brown ground colour with the large Kepse guls in diagonal line of differing colours. They include shades of indigo blue and a blue/green. The border is of the traditional curled leaf design. The long elem end panels are filled with classic Turkmen designs.
The carpet is in excellent condition with even wear and good / medium pile, the wool is very soft and the carpet has a floppy handle.

This outstanding carpet was woven about 30 years ago by the mother of my Turkish restorer. It was made in the family home in a small village in central Turkey and is now offered for sale for the first time in its history.
The carpet has a beautifully drawn version of the classic 19th century dragon design that is found mainly on Caucasian flatweaves from the Kuba region. The quality of the wool and the colour palette is really outstanding.

Dated 1326 which translates to 1908.
The rug has a dark indigo blue ground with three red octagonal medallions each containing a latch hook device. The rug is dated just below the mihrab '1326' 1908. The borders are a feature of the rug, the inner and outer guards are a reciprocal design in red and green, the main border in ivory and charcoal brown is of a reciprocal design typically associated with Bordjalou rugs. Note the pair of water or oil ewers either side of the mihrab, a sign of cleanliness.
