Size: 2ft 8in x 1ft 8in (80 x 50cm). Excluding tassels.A very small size Egyptian silk rug with a traditional Persian 'hunting' design.
About 50 years old.
The rug has an ivory coloured field filled with a traditional Persian hunting design. There is a man on horseback with a bow and arrow; in a garden of trees and shrubs with an unusual collection of birds and animals. There are birds of paradise, elephants, rhinoceros, deer, monkeys and lions. The main border is flowers and birds. Note the original Egyptian cloth label attached to the back.
The rug is in excellent condition with very slight wear and good pile. The rug has been hand washed recently.
Silk pile on a silk foundation.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use, or would make a good wall hanging.
Please note: Silk rugs are difficult to photograph due to the light reflecting off the very shiny surface, light areas are not fading, they are just light reflections. The close up images show the truest colours.
