Size: 9ft 8in x 6ft 8in (295 x 204cm).Antique Tekke Turkmen main carpet with 5 rows of 14 guls.
Circa 1880.
A good Tekke main carpet of small room size, the clear madder red field has well drawn Tekke guls which are quartered in indigo blue and cochineal, the minor gul is of a scarce ovoid form and also contains a lot of cochineal. The border is of the sunburst design. Note the very decorative piled elem panels which are of a different design at each end.
The carpet is in excellent condition with very slight even wear with good almost full pile. The carpet is of fine weave with fine soft pile and a floppy handle. The carpet retains short original kilims at both ends, these are currently open but could be secured if desired.
The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use.
