Description

Size: 8ft 5in x 4ft 3in (256 x 129cm).
Antique Timuri Baluch rug with all over small shrub design.
Circa 1880.
An interesting rug of larger than normal size, the repeat shrub design is associated with the Timuri, Dokhtar-e-Qazi tribes, which were found in the border regions of Western Afghanistan and eastern Persia. The design is most commonly found on small prayer rugs of a very distinctive form, but also on a few larger rugs, runners and main carpets. This example has the small shrubs on a dark charcoal coloured ground, which has corroded.
The rug is in good condition with even wear and medium to low pile, both ends retain the short original kilim.
