Size: 4ft 7in x 2ft 11in (140 x 90cm).Antique Timuri / Baluch prayer rug with repeat shrub design, from Western Afghanistan.
Circa 1880 or earlier.
An interesting prayer rug with a repeat lattice design of small shrubs. Note the use of small amounts of green as a highlight throughout the rugs. The rug is from a small group of prayer rugs with an 'elem' panel to the base; only a handful of rugs of this design are known. The border is also of a rare form and associated with early rugs.
The rug is in good condition with some wear and medium pile.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use, or would make a good display item.
