Antique Ersari Turkmen germech in perfect original condition.
Circa 1900.
This is a very scarce Turkmen weaving, it is believed that germech were hung across the entrance to the tribal yurt in the door way below the ensi at ground level. The purpose was to stop dirt and dust blowing into the yurt and also to prevent small animals entering. Very few of these have survived and rarely come to the market.
This example by the Ersari Turkmen has a repeat design of tribal elements on a rich brown ground. The germech retains its original short decorated kilim and tassels at the lower end and the upper end is folded over to give increased strength to the top edge.
The germech is in excellent condition with no wear and full pile, I would go as far as to say that this is in almost perfect condition.
This is a collectible Turkmen weaving that will display very well.
