Description
Size: 6ft 11in x 5ft 5in (210 x 164cm).Antique Afghan Ersari Turkmen rug of unusual all over design with excellent colour, in a ensi design.
Circa 1900/20.
Ensi were door hangings used to cover the entrance to a yurt.
This ensi rug has a repeat all over design, it has superb glossy wool and excellent clear colour. The ensi probably was woven in Northern Afghanistan and possibly has connections to the Beshir Turkmen. Note the beautiful row of shrubs in the elem at the base of the ensi, these are often found on Beshir chuval. The flat woven checkerboard end finish is very pleasing.
The ensi is in excellent condition with only slight even wear and good pile.
The ensi has been hand washed and is ready for use or display, the rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
