Antique Uzbek silk velvet ikat uut kap ilgich, shield wall hangings for the yurt.

late 19th century.

Uut kap ilgich are shield shaped hangings that usually formed part of a brides dowry; this pair are made using re-purposed silk velvet ikat mounted onto white felt. The backs of the bags are covered in red wool cloth with simple embroidered designs.

The condition is good with some small areas of age related wear / damage to the velvet faces.

Antique Uzbek Lakai tribe ilgich, dowry wall hanging for the yurt.

Ilgich are embroidered hangings that usually formed part of a brides dowry; they are talismanic and considered to be protective. This example is embroidered in silk on a yellow cotton ground.

The condition is fair with some age / use related staining to the yellow cotton ground. The ilgich has been re-backed in Kabul circa 2010.

Antique Swedish carriage cushion cover face.

Mid 19th century.

This beautiful cushion cover face is woven in interlocked tapestry technique; the design is a diamond lattice containing nine ladies in traditional dress. This textile would make a wonderful wall hanging or could be re-made into a cushion.

The textile is in excellent condition with very slight wear and excellent colour.

The textile has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.

Woven with ladies and gentlemen playing Blind Man's Buff,
within a four-sided frame pattern red and gold guilloche border with
intermittent floral sprays,

The original Oudry designs were first woven in the Beauvais manufactory in
1730.

Antique Uzbek Bokhara suzani.

Circa 1850.

Suzani are silk embroideries that have been woven in Uzbekistan for many hundreds of years, they are treasured family items woven by the ladies of a family usually to celebrate a wedding. They are then used to decorate the inside of the Yurt. They are embroidered in silk on strips of cotton which are then joined together to make the complete item. The suzani is then backed with fine cotton to give it strength and body.

This example is from Bukhara and features large multi coloured fan shaped flowers in groups entwined in a green leafy vine. The suzani has been embroidered in five strips.

The condition is excellent with only very slight wear and a few scattered old repairs, the suzani has a fine cotton ivory backing.

The suzani is ready for display or it could be used as a bed cover.

Suzani are silk embroideries that have been woven in Uzbekistan for many hundreds of years, they are treasured family items woven by the ladies of a family usually to celebrate a wedding. They are then used to decorate the inside of the Yurt. They are embroidered in silk on strips of cotton which are then joined together to make the complete item. The suzani is then backed with fine cotton to give it strength and body.

This small example is known as a 'nim' suzani, which translated means half size. It is from Bukhara and features large multi coloured flowers entwined in a green leafy vine. The suzani has been embroidered in three strips.

The condition is excellent with only very slight wear and no repairs, the suzani has a fine cotton backing printed with a paisley design.

The suzani is ready for display.

Antique Swedish carriage cushion, filled and ready for use.

Mid 19th century.

This beautiful carriage cushion has a truly outstanding design with a single large animal.... maybe a horse; surrounded by small birds in the inner border, with deer in the outer border. The cushion has a black striped back and is filled ready for use.

The cushion is in excellent condition with very slight wear and excellent colour, there are a few signs of use on the seams which could be easily fixed.
