Description
Size: 4ft 3in x 1ft 5in (130 x 43cm).Antique pair of heybe (saddle bags) from Western Anatolia (Turkey). Probably from Balikesir in the Bergama Region.
Circa 1900.
See No 30, 31, woven by Kilaz tribe, in the book "HEYBE" by M Bieber, D Pinkwart, E Steiner for related examples.
The design and colours are outstanding. The bags have wonderful striped backs.
The bags are in excellent condition with signs of use and a few old field repairs.
The bags are a little grubby and would benefit from a good wash.
