Description

Size: 6ft 5in x 3ft 3in (196 x 100cm).
Antique Baluch rug, with scarce repeat design to the field.
Late 19th century.
An outstanding Baluch rug from the Khorassan region of North East Persia. The rug has a camel ground with a linked medallion design most often seen on balisht (grain bags). Each of the medallions contains a small cockerel to the center, the cockerel is the harbinger of the day and the dispeller of the night. Note also the very nice small dogs or goats drawn in the main border at the top and lower end. The rug also has very good piled end finishes in a chevron design; the careful use of yellow at the ends was important to the weaver.
The rug is in superb condition with no visible wear and full pile.
Hand washed and ready for use or display.
