Size: 5ft 4in x 4ft 2in (163 x 127cm).Old Caucasian Chichi village rug with traditional design on an orange ground.
About 20 years old.
This rug was purchased about 20 years ago in Azerbaijan as part of a collection of Caucasian village rugs. The design is identical to the well known 19th century examples of Chichi village rugs. This example is very well made with an orange ground covered with rows of geometric, floral and eight point star motifs. The border is a distinctive feature of Chichi rugs and this example is one of the most traditional with a continuous diagonal stripe and rosette design.
The rug has very slight even wear and good pile.
Hand washed and ready for use or display.
