A very rare Afghan prayer rug which is inscribed and dated, the date reads 1310.... which translates to 1892; the inscription is below the mihrab and in the main field of the rug. This rug was obviously of great importance to the weaver or more likely the person who commissioned it. The rug was probably woven by the Kizil Ayak Turkmen in Northern Afghanistan.

The rug is in excellent condition, with very slight even wear and good pile. The rug retains the original kilim at both ends, the lower end kilim has been folded under and stitched to the back. Antique Afghan Baluch rug with all over repeat lattice design.
Circa 1900.
The rug is in a deep burgundy red with long original kilims at both ends. The sides retain the original goats hair bindings.
The rug is in fair condition, it has heavy wear but is still sound and has a great lived with look. There is one or two very small finger tip size areas of damage.
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use.
