A very rare Afghan prayer rug which is inscribed and dated, the date reads 1310.... which translates to 1892; the inscription is below the mihrab and in the main field of the rug. This rug was obviously of great importance to the weaver or more likely the person who commissioned it. The rug was probably woven by the Kizil Ayak Turkmen in Northern Afghanistan.
The rug is in fair condition with wear and medium / low pile. Both ends retain the original long kilims, these are showing some signs of historic wear.

There are old brass hanging rings attached to the back at the top end, the rug has probably been wall hung which accounts for its excellent condition.
