Antique Yomut Karadashli Turkmen main carpet, Khiva Khanate, Central Asia.
1st half 19th Century.
This outstanding early Yomut Karadashli main carpet was published in 2003, 'Bigger is Better, Main Carpets of the Turkmen', Plate 18. A fabulous collection of Turkoman main carpets. Originally published to coincide with the International Conference on Oriental Carpets. This carpet was part of the K Munkacsi Collection.
The carpet has a rich colour palette with seven colours. The boarder is a very well drawn example of a classic curl leaf design. The carpet is of a rare format with three rows of ten 'tauk-nauska' guls. Eight or the rows of main guls containing the rare 'C' design to the centre. The large deep elems at both ends are decorated with small Turkmen trees or shrubs, this is typical of Karadashli main carpets.
The carpet is in good condition with even wear with medium / low pile. Some areas of corrosion and spots of foundation. Full technical analysis is available upon request.
This is a highly collectable carpet in good condition with wonderful colour.
The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
