A rare antique fragment of a piled Kyrgyz tent band, these are known locally as 'tegerich'.
2nd half 19th century.
This example is the end section of a much longer tent band, complete bands can be up to 8 meters (26ft) in length, the bands were used as internal decoration inside the yurt. The design has a repeat floral design in the central panel and a reciprocal outer border on each side, it is normal for one outer border to be wider than the other, the wide border would be placed at the top when the band was displayed inside the yurt. The colours are excellent with a very warm glow.
Good original condition with some wear and losses, there are some historic marks to the reverse. (We have not washed this item).

This outstanding example was woven by the Timuri tribes of Western Afghanistan, it was woven in two parts on a narrow tribal loom, the field is filled with a tree design in an embroidered technique. The borders are piled, there is a bannd of ivory weftwork decoration across the center of the field. Both ends retain the original kilim end finishes with brocaded decoration.
The sofreh is in good condition with some signs of use, there are a number of small old tribal repairs.
The sofreh is suitable for light domestic use.
The sofreh has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
This is a scarce and collectible example of tribal Baluch weaving.

This is a superb example of Afshar Soumak work with a diamond Lattice design. The border is of the classic Afshar chevron design. The back is in plain weave madder red colour.
The salt bag is in excellent condition with very slight even wear to the face, the corners show some signs of tribal use and the back has some slight discolouration and some small black stains. I have not washed this bag and I am sure that it will improve with a gentle hand wash.

This excellent salt bag is tightly woven with a fine design identical on both sides, the bag is decorated with long tassels and small cowrie shells. Note the decorative light blue band across the shoulder of the bag, this is an attractive and unusual feature. Salt bags like this were used to carry rock salt which was a very precious commodity to the nomads.
The salt bag is in excellent original condition and would make a wonderful wall hanging. This is an outstanding example of type.

Antique Kyrgyz felt 'ok bash' cover for yurt tent poles.
Circa 1900.
Ok bash were decorative covers used by the nomadic tribes to cover the ends of the long wooden poles or struts, that were used in the construction of the family yurt. During the migration the poles were strapped to the sides of camels and these highly decorative bags covered the ends of the poles.
Ok bash are found in piled, felt and flat weave formats, this example from Kyrgyzstan is in felt, with the archaic design inlayed in darker coloured felt, the decorative tassels made of horse hair have then been applied.
Excellent condition with very slight signs of wear through use visible on the reverse.

Antique Kyrgyz felt 'ok bash' cover for yurt tent poles.
Circa 1900.
Ok bash were decorative covers used by the nomadic tribes to cover the ends of the long wooden poles or struts, that were used in the construction of the family yurt. During the migration the poles were strapped to the sides of camels and these highly decorative bags covered the ends of the poles.
Ok bash are found in piled, felt and flat weave formats, this example from Kyrgyzstan is in felt, with the archaic design inlayed in darker coloured felt, the decorative tassels made of horse hair have then been applied.
Excellent condition with very slight signs of wear through use visible on the reverse.

The weaving has a colour palette that is typical of the Sistan Baluch.
The bag face is in very good condition with very slight wear and good pile, there are a few missing knots in the top lefthand corner.

Antique Kurdish yastik with excellent colour and traditional design.
Circa 1900.
Yastik are small piled rugs that were used as pillows or back rests.
The yastik is well drawn with good colour including a soft yellow. The border design is of particular interest.
The yastik is in good condition with slight even wear and good pile, The wool is soft and the bag face has a floppy handle.
The yastik has been hand washed and is ready for display.

Antique Jaf Kurd bag face of diamond lattice design with good colour and superb wool.
Circa 1900.
The bag face is well drawn with a hooked medallion lattice, the bag has a floral rosette main border and an inner border of diamond design on an ivory ground. The bag face is of a large size.
The bag face is in outstanding condition with no wear and full pile. Note the closing lappets are retained at the top end and some of the decorative kilim is at the lower end.
The bag face has been hand washed and is ready for display.

Circa 1880.
The bag face is well drawn with a hooked medallion lattice, surrounded by a floral rosette border. The bag face retains the parts of the closing lappets at the top.
The back is of a very striking zig zag design, the back has some damage and old repairs from tribal use.
The bag face is in good condition with slight even wear and good pile, there is corrosion to the browns as would be expected. The wool is very soft and the bag face has a floppy handle.

Note the somewhat quirky design where the inner border meets the field. Was the weaver just having fun or was it a novice weaver. Never the less it adds to the visual attraction of the bag face.
The bag face is in good condition with some wear and good long glossy pile, there is some corrosion to the browns. Note the decorative panel at the upper end. The bag face is of large size.
